Reading can become strangely public. Progress screenshots, ratings, streaks, reactions, and public shelves can turn private attention into another surface to maintain.
Lantern & Spine takes a quieter position. A reader may use every prompt and never submit a sentence. A reader may pause for weeks and return through a clear door. A reader may finish a cycle without being counted publicly.
Community still exists. It appears through shared books, carefully moderated reflections, future gatherings, and the knowledge that other readers entered the same rooms. But the reader does not have to become content for the community.
