Why Lantern & Spine Begins With Two Programs

Lantern & Spine does not begin by trying to become every kind of literary platform at once. It begins with two complete responsibilities: serve adult readers well, and serve younger readers with the support of families, educators, and librarians.

The adult Reading Society opens with a romance about love, loss, identity, and the life waiting after certainty. The Young Readers Circle opens with a strange house, a dangerous pattern, and a younger reader’s question: how do you prove that you are still yourself when a copy looks exactly like you?

The programs are connected by the same institutional standard. Each has a verified published book, separate English and Spanish doors, a reading map, spoiler-protected rooms, private participation, and an ending.

This is not a large catalog pretending to have a community. It is a small literary institution beginning with two complete promises.
